JOSEPH AKEL
A Creative Director and Editor, Joseph Akel works at the intersection of fashion, art, and culture.
As a Creative Director, Joseph has helmed the relaunching of iconic brands, beginning with Banana Republic in 2020 and Esprit in 2022. His past clients include Chanel, Bvlgari, Ermenegildo Zegna, Dior Homme, Tiffany & Co., Fenty RTW, and more.
In addition to his brand work, Joseph has an extensive background in fashion publishing. In 2012 he co-founded the men’s fashion magazine, Man of the World. In 2014 he co-founded At Large, a bi-annual fashion publication with contributors including Jackie Nickerson, Ib Kamara, Magnus Unnar, Roe Etheridge, Paolo Reversi, and many others. Joseph has also served as the Executive Editor for V and VMAN magazine and, in 2017, launched L’Officiel USA as its first Editor-in-Chief.
His writings have appeared in publications including Vanity Fair, The Paris Review, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Interview, Frieze, The Brooklyn Rail, New York Magazine, and Artforum.
